A.I.R. Gallery member and Riverwoods resident Kristy Raines Loving created her “Other Voices” series of portraits after researching African Americans who “defied all odds, transcended all barriers to become ‘the first’ in many fields, from science, to education, politics and government.” Loving’s subtly powerful portraits were created on board using her distinctive “squiggly line” approach to colored pencil technique.

Loving says she was “born an artist,” but didn’t seriously pursue art until she was an adult with a family, starting with classes at The Art Center, Highland Park and continuing at Northern Illinois University, where she earned a MFA degree in painting and drawing, studying with Reginald Coleman. Reginald Coleman – Target Series

Reginald Coleman TARGET SERIES Mixed Media

For his “Target Series” Lake Bluff resident Reginald Coleman revisited a theme he has explored previously in his career as a teacher and artist. Coleman holds BFA and MFA degrees from the University of Oklahoma and has exhibited at Neville-Sargent Gallery in Chicago, the College of Lake County and Barat College in Lake Forest, among other venues. His work is in numerous prestigious collections; for details please visit his website at his website at

Coleman’s current work combines graphic markings with images from 1960s era magazines, dense with content, history and a bit of humor. Coleman has manipulated images and text to entice the viewer to view the compositional structure. Coleman says “I always want composition – how it is – to trump content – what it is.”

The exhibit will run through April 30. After the opening reception, hours are by appointment: please contact A.I.R. Gallery at
