“My approach to ceramics, among other things, is to imagine what I want to see that isn’t there and then create it. I have lately been finding inspiration in my little garden, which my wife Dina and I began creating before I became involved with ceramic arts. As Dina and I were spending more time in our garden, particularly as a consequence of the pandemic, she handed me some clay and I began to create fantasy creatures that I thought would look at-home in the garden, and add to a sense of wonder, mystery, and magic of what might happen in the garden when we’re not looking. The works in this show are some of those creations that are now part of our garden. These fantasies may seem out of place here in this room. They are more accustomed to being around plants, sunlight, rain, fresh air, rustling leaves, small animals, and a few human visitors.”
