David Gista Show Premieres Library Paintings at AIR, Opening Saturday, October 30th!

AIR Gallery is pleased to present new paintings by talented David Gista, opening Saturday, October 30, 2021, from 3:00-6:00PM. "Lost Libraries, paintings from an avid reader" celebrates David's love of reading. The show runs through December 6, 2021 at AIR Gallery, 348 Tudor Court, Glencoe, Illinois. Show hours are Thursday, Friday, Saturday, 11:00am-5:00pm. Many locals may recognize Gista from his previously running an art school in downtown Glencoe in the same gallery and studio space.

David Gista harnesses his long-held wry sense of humor and amused outlook to represent absurdities and paradoxes of modern life in a playful manner. Each of his paintings capture imagination, intrigue and irreverence, and achieve an overall distinctive artistic aesthetic.

Gista shared, “Books have been present in my life as long as I remember, both as objects invading my daily space as well as sources of information and stories. They have a stimulating role for my imagination, they encourage me to create the images that they describe without showing them. The paintings of Libraries are in a way a metaphorical representation of my inner life: a single individual, sometimes contemplative, often erratic, among this multitude of stories and the characters that constitute them. The theme allows me as well to question our relationship to knowledge and information, how do we acquire it, how do we transmit it?”

David Gista was born and raised in Paris, and now divides his time between France and the United States, having established his artistic career on both continents. Gista studied art at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris and so combines his classical fine arts training with his keen-eyed examination of modernity, creating a running commentary on contemporary life expressed in a variety of media.

AIR Studio + Gallery is located at 348 Tudor Court, Glencoe, across the street from Writers Theatre.
