Peggy Shearn Delights with Her Fanciful Dream Paintings Show Opening May 4 at AIR Gallery in Glencoe

Updated: Apr 19

This May, Highland Park artist Peggy Schutze Shearn delights in her one-woman show “Dream a Little Dream with Me” at AIR Studio + Gallery in Glencoe. The art exhibit features imaginative paintings inspired by the artist’s dreams. The opening reception is Saturday, May 4, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, and the exhibit will continue through June 1, 2024. AIR Gallery, at 348 Tudor Ct. in Glencoe, is open Thursday, Friday, Saturday from noon until 5:00pm.

Fanciful and strange, her intensely detailed acrylic paintings suggest the warped perspectives, impossible juxtapositions and mysterious narratives of dream life. Shearn has no formal art education, but has honed her creative skills working as a graphic designer, calligrapher, illustrator, printmaker and in the last 20 years as a painter. Since early adulthood she has written down her dreams; inspired by the traditions of Folk and Outsider art, she began to bring the dreams to life in her paintings.

Shearn has exhibited at AIR Gallery, The Evanston Art Center, the Art Center Highland Park, the Elmhurst Art Museum, the Zhou B Art Center in Chicago and numerous other venues in the Chicago area.
