Artists, working in various media, have a need to display their work electronically, on social media with fellow artists and potential collectors/customers.
Learn how to:
Set up proper lighting
How to avoid reflections and hotspots
Obtaining the correct colors in your artwork
In this workshop, we plan to examine methods for taking artwork pictures while avoiding reflections and having the light evenly distributed across the work. After an introduction into the properties of light, we will examine several lighting configurations for creating digital images of artwork. Participants are expected to bring their camera (and camera manual, if available) plus one piece of their artwork to the workshop. Participants will be able to use several lighting configurations to create images.
The second portion of the workshop will deal with recording the correct colors from the artwork. After an explanation of the color of light and a demonstration of how different light sources can influence image color, participants will be able to learn about the color temperature setting for their camera.
By the end of the workshop, the participants should have enough information to be able to set up a lighting condition in their studio to correctly record the artwork colors without reflections, thus being able to present professional looking images to others.
Workshop Leader: Rick Katz A photographer and educator, Rick has been teaching photography for the last 20 years. One of the courses he developed investigates photographing reflective surfaces without the reflective glare so often encountered. This workshop uses part of that course to assist artists in understanding how to produce quality images of their artwork without reflections and with proper color rendition.
